shizumu enters open beta today. linux, android, and windows.
the headline is sync. end-to-end encrypted, and yours either way: run the relay on your own server, or use ours free: two devices, one gigabyte of attachments, forever. writing is never metered. the keys stay on your devices, so what you write stays unreadable to anyone but you.
the app got quieter. the redesign trims chrome across both spaces, and a long pass through the accumulated bug list settles the editor, the windows installer, and the phone. less to look at, less in the way.
android and windows are new. first builds, honestly labeled. beta means rough edges remain, and it means we want you to hit them and tell us: the issue tracker is open, and it is where beta reports land.
a note on android. the play listing is in closed testing while review finalises, so today android installs as a direct apk from the download section. it is the same signed build the store will serve, so nothing changes for you when the listing opens.
google will not open it until twelve testers have been enrolled for fourteen continuous days, which is a real thing you can help with. if you have an android phone and a google account, reply to the launch email or open an issue saying so, and we will add you to the closed track. it costs you one install and whatever you were going to do with the app anyway.
everything is free during the beta, and the free sync tier stays free after it. at 1.0, a founding lifetime seat opens: one payment, everything forever, first 200 only. the email list hears about it first.
