terms of service
last updated: june 2026
these terms cover your use of shizumu: the writing app, this website, and the optional hosted sync service. by using them you agree to what follows. if you do not agree, please do not use the service.
who runs shizumu
shizumu is operated by khadija el mestar, an individual sole proprietor based in morocco ("we", "us"). you can reach us any time at hello@shizumu.app.
the app
the shizumu app is free. every feature, every platform. it is local-first: your writing lives on your device. you can also run your own sync relay (self-deploy) at no cost. nothing in these terms charges you for the app itself.
hosted sync
hosted sync is the paid, optional service where we run a relay so your writing syncs across your devices. it is end-to-end encrypted: we store only encrypted data and cannot read your writing. plans, storage limits, and prices are listed on the pricing page.
paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly or yearly) until cancelled. the founding lifetime plan is a one-time payment. you can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. see the refund and cancellation policy for details.
payments
payments are processed by a third-party payment provider acting as the merchant of record. they handle billing, applicable taxes, and the payment receipt. we never see or store your full card details.
acceptable use
use shizumu for your own lawful writing. do not use the hosted service to store or distribute unlawful content, to break encryption or security, to overload or probe the infrastructure, or to resell the service. we may suspend an account that does these things.
your content
your writing is yours. we claim no rights over it. because hosted sync is end-to-end encrypted, we cannot access, moderate, or recover the contents of your encrypted data. keep your recovery phrase safe: if you lose it, we cannot restore your encrypted writing.
availability and changes
the hosted service is provided on a best-effort basis and may change or have downtime. we may update these terms; when we do, we will change the date above. continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
disclaimer and liability
the app and service are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. to the extent allowed by law, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. we are not liable for lost data, lost profits, or indirect damages.
governing law
these terms are governed by the laws of [your country], without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
